Good Decisions, Bad Decisions

When was the last time you made a bad career or business decision? What were the consequences? Really bad huh. But the most important thing is what have you learned from it?

On his first day at work, young newly MBA Graduate COO (Child Of the Owner ^_^) approached his Boss (his dad actually, the CEO and owner of the Company) and asked what is the key to succeed in their business. The Boss simply replied, “By making good decisions, son. “ “That’s quite easy,” the son remarked, and asked, “But how do you make good decisions, dad?” The Boss promptly replied, “By making bad decisions, son.”

There is a ring of truth in there. It is said that a great education or intelligence is not a guarantee to succeed in business or any career. While those are important, they are not entirely the keys to success. What you need to have is foresight and hindsight. Foresight is the ability to predict and see what is likely to happen and be able to plan for it. While hindsight is the ability to assess what transpired, what went wrong and learn from the experience. It is difficult to avoid bad decisions sometimes, for they inevitably happen. But we always to learn from them and recoup. Thomas Edison conducted thousands of experiments before he perfected the first incandescent bulb. When asked what he got from the other failed experiments, he politely replied: I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

How do you recover from bad decisions? Have your say please.

Agree. While I always believe in objectivity in each decision we take, I also believe that we should allow God to give us directions in our decisions.

  4. Hi Ronnie,

“Thomas Edison … politely replied: I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.””

I love that! It’s also true, sometimes you have to fail to move forward.

Making decisions is quite easy, but making consistently good decisions only comes with experience, and experience often includes getting things wrong.

The trick is understanding why things went wrong and avoiding the mistakes in the future. You also need to be persistent and to have faith in yourself.

However, there is a risk, and that risk is making the decision that brings down your business.

Running your own business, for example, is a little like walking a tightrope – make a mistake, and you will fall – hard.

    Not easy.

    Some interesting thoughts here.

    Good stuff!

    All the best,

    Alex

  5. I do make bad decisions too but what else can be done except move on.

  6. Some day Adnan Kasogi ( one of richest man on the worlds has asked by journalist :

J : Tell us what is your success secret.
    A : Good decision..good decision…good decision
J : How do you get good decision ?
    A : Bad decision..bad decision…bad decision
    J : ??##!!?

The moral is we shouldn’t affraid to make a decision, because you never now when you will get perfect success
