Books, books, and reading
If there is one single advice that I have never failed to give to any young professional, it is about reading books. I am saddened by the fact that as the internet continue to grow in unlimited supply of information; it robs us of the time to read books, good books.
I have nothing against reading websites and blogs; however books are still preferable, in my humble opinion. Other than you are not restricted with an internet connection and glaring monitor, books can be carried virtually anywhere.
Reading good books for young professionals is important for numerous reasons. Some of these important reasons are very practical, while others less tangible, and not so obvious. Because comes with much reading, is the honing of our ability to understand, analyze data, and comprehend new subject matter that we have not previously been expose do.
Great minds are behind every good book. A young professional who wants to get ahead of his/her peers and who eyes the top of the corporate ladder should invest money and time reading on good books about his career, industry, business trends, and management practices. Knowledge is power. This will always prove to be an advantage.

I would add that you also need to read great fiction for cultural literacy and a more rounded outlook. Great writers all teach lessons–whether that’s in a how to book or what is shown about the interactions and lives of others in great fiction.
